Our Story

AX Real Estate p.l.c. is a subsidiary of AX Group p.l.c.  The company was incorporated in 2019 with a view to holding and acquiring a number of property companies that form part of the AX Group.  AX Real Estate p.l.c. builds on the expertise and resources of the AX Group to own, develop and manage real estate investments.

The company seeks to acquire properties that are located in prime locations or locations that have the potential of becoming so. The company focuses on acquiring properties that are developed and which have good rental income streams.

AX Real Estate p.l.c. holds a portfolio of properties that are in the hospitality, care home and retirement village business, offices, warehouses and other industrial properties as well as commercial and residential property. The long-term objective is to grow the number of properties held, diversify the mix of uses of these properties and achieve steady long-term growth in the value of these properties and the income derived therefrom.

The AX Group’s philosophy is centred around owning and managing good quality real estate, the use of innovative concepts in developing such properties and a strong focus on sound business models to ensure that the properties serve their intended purpose and design. This philosophy has been adopted by AX Real Estate p.l.c. and the company’s board and management are committed to continuing to build on these principles.

One of the key drivers for success has been the ability to identify, design and build properties that fit in well with the needs of the communities within the localities where the properties are located.  Properties that meet the AX Group’s definition of good quality are those that enhance the environment and communities where they are situated. The AX Group has a long history of making such investments and these properties are today owned by AX Real Estate p.l.c. The Group’s properties in Qawra and Sliema are prime examples of developments that positively transformed the localities where they are situated.

The Qawra coast had been earmarked for tourism development since the 1960’s as part of the Government’s drive to attract tourism to the islands. When AX Group started to develop the Sunny Coast Resort in the early 1980’s most of the land in Qawra was still undeveloped.  The construction of the Suncrest Hotel in the mid 1980’s saw Qawra take on a new dimension.  A proper road was constructed to create access along the coast, a number of residences and many holiday apartments and other hotels were developed following the opening of the Suncrest to the extent that Qawra became Malta’s second tourist destination after St Julians.  A community developed in Qawra much of it centred on the tourism and holiday industry with bars, restaurants and other places of entertainment catering for the needs of this industry and ever since the AX Group has remained steadfast in its mission to build properties that complement and enhance the towns and communities in the vicinity.

One of the more recent investments undertaken by the AX Group is that of Hilltop Gardens Retirement Village. The development consists of a retirement village with 133 residential units and a range of facilities to complement and create the lifestyle of the retirement village as well as the 155-bed Simblija Care Home. The long-term vision is to consistently elevate people’s quality of life, particularly that of elderly residents. At Hilltop Gardens people can continue to live independently but enjoy the sense of belonging of the community while at the same time forming part of the larger community and village life in Naxxar. The model enables the residents of Hilltop Gardens to live in a secure environment and benefit from a host of amenities and services for a better wellbeing.
